Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) prides itself on offering the most diverse processor selection of the "Big Four" cloud providers. By 2026, OCI has solidified a "best-of-breed" strategy, allowing you to rent servers powered by the latest silicon from AMD, Intel, and Ampere (Arm).
Here is the current breakdown of the processor families available for rental:
AMD is currently the most popular choice in OCI due to its high core density and "Flexible" architecture.
Standard E6 (Latest Gen): Powered by 5th Gen AMD EPYC (codenamed "Turin"). These processors utilize the Zen 5 architecture and provide roughly 1.5x the performance of the previous generation.
Standard E5: Powered by 4th Gen AMD EPYC (Genoa). A very stable, high-performance generation widely used for enterprise applications.
Standard E4/E3 (Legacy): Powered by 3rd Gen (Milan) and 2nd Gen (Rome) EPYC chips. These are still available but are being phased out in favor of the more efficient E5/E6 lines.
